Pygmalion, Raphael Pichon

Pygmalion, choir and orchestra, under the direction of Raphaël Pichon, enjoys resonating contrasting works while reviving the spirit of their creation. They are joined here by two loyal collaborators, Sabine Devieilhe and Stéphane Degout.

Organically connected to Bach and Mozart, Pygmalion distances itself from its favorite composers to present an unprecedented musical encounter. It is well-known that Ambroise Thomas, director of the Paris Conservatory, who was troubled by Gabriel Fauré's bold writing, dismissed his younger colleague's candidacy for the position of composition professor in 1872. Fauré had to wait until 1896 to join the Paris institution… where he would later become director himself. Nevertheless, the Paris of the turn of the century delights in these two exceptional melodists, the former adored at the opera for Mignon and Hamlet, and the latter applauded for his talents as a pianist, organist, and composer. His luminous and peaceful Requiem rightly remains one of the most famous.
